Cataract surgery is one of the safest and most common surgeries across the world and has been used for decades. The reason behind cataract surgery is simple - by seeing clearly, you’ll be ensuring that you can live better. It’s no surprise that studies have shown that better vision in seniors directly results in less falls and injuries because the way we see our surroundings is essential in how well we walk, interact, and enjoy our lives.

Pikes Peak Eye Care offers cataract surgery at our Colorado Springs Eye Care Center.

If you’ve just learned about cataract surgery, you may not be aware of the advances in eye health technology. Today, there are various IOLs (intraocular lenses) that are used during cataract surgery to treat refractive errors, presbyopia, and astigmatism.

Instead of investing in multifocal lenses or progressives, some IOLs have literally allowed people to see clearly without the need for prescription eyewear!

Because cataract surgery has had years of study by ophthalmologists across the US and above a 98% success rate (meaning surgery that resulted in little to zero complications), clear vision has never been more accessible to those with advancing cataracts.

Cataract co-management isn’t just to see how your cataracts have developed. An eye doctor can guide you when it’s appropriate to address your cataracts, whether there are alternatives to surgery, and ultimately, when cataract surgery is right for you. Cataracts in nearly all cases is a normal build up inside the eye, and while some try to live with poorer vision, removal is often ideal.
